WORKSHOP ADD ON

FMSEA Aquatic Species Collection Workshop

During your week at MarineLab you will see staff collect wildlife as learning tools.  MarineLab holds specific state and federal permits that allow our staff to collect specific specimens.  This summer we are excited to collaborate with the Florida Marine Science Educators Association (FMSEA) to offer MarineLab teacher workshop participants the opportunity to partake in FMSEA's 2 hour Aquatic Species Collection Workshop.

WHAT IS THE WORKSHOP ABOUT?

The workshop is for teachers who collect live marine specimens for educational purposes.  Proper collecting and transporting is discussed by a FMSEA rep along with best methods to utilize to minimize environmental impacts.  While the certificate would only be valid for Florida based teachers, the workshop would be valuable to all educators!

CERTIFICATION

This workshop was developed in partnership with FWC (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission); upon completion, if you are a Florida educator who meets the qualifications, you will receive a FWC certificate that makes you eligible to collect species that would normally be restricted under fishing license regulations.  The certificate does not require annual reporting and is good for 3 years.

WORKSHOP ADD ON FEE

This workshop is $36, paid directly to FMSEA, and includes an annual FMSEA membership.  The fee for this FMSEA workshop is not included in the MarineLab teacher workshop fee.

You can read more about FMSEA's workshop and register here.

The FMSEA workshop will be held on MarineLab's campus Friday July 25 from 1:15-3:15.  All participants are expected to depart after the workshop.

Please reach out to FMSEA directly with any specific questions about the workshop at collections@fmsea.org.
